This app is dedicated to bridge the educational gap among students
in the most prominent weak areas of competency; Science and
Mathematics. SMEDA can increase the level of engagement and
understanding in these subject areas by way of having video
tutorials on a topic and then testing the students' critical
thinking skills on what they have been taught through a series of
multiple-choice quizzes.
Process of Testing
1. A topic will be selected from the curriculum for the respective grades. For example Fractions
2. A tutorial video will be posted on Fractions
3. Users will be tested on what they would have learnt prior and from the videos
4. The MCQ’s will be composed of say 10 questions. After completing all questions the student will not be able to move on until 100% pass is attained
5. The user will not know which question he/she got incorrect. This will facilitate critical thinking as he/she will have to assess each question keenly and exercise discipline and faith in their own abilities
6. The facilitator will be able to access each user's results thereby knowing what he/she has more difficulty in understanding
7. If a user has more than four (4) tries without 100% pass it can be deduced that there is a genuine misconception or error.
SMEDA was developed for students hence it had to be gamified. Some of the gamified features are:
• Leaderboard/ Competition
• Animated Images
• Animated Confetti
• Reward Items
• Reward Sounds
• Game Over Sound
• Sound on the tap of a buttons
• Semi Game User Interface
• Streaks
• Positive reinforcement- positive words of affirmation (almost there and Great job)
• Multiple colors
