Xin xăm là một tập tục tín ngưỡng dân gian có từ ngàn xưa. Mọi người thường tới Quan Thánh hội quán (ở Hội An xưa thường có tập tục này) hoặc đền chùa vào những ngày mồng 1 rằm hoặc linh nhất vào 10 ngày tết âm lịch để dâng hương lễ bái và xin ngẫu nhiên một lá xăm. Bộ Xăm Quan Thánh gồm có 100 lá được đánh số từ 1 đến 100 lại chia ra các loại thượng kiết (tốt nhất) hạ kiết (tốt ít) trung bình (không tốt không xấu) trung hạ (xấu vừa) hạ hạ (rất xấu).
